| Profile of Rabbi Danny Bergson |

Rabbi Danny Bergson grew up in Manchester where he received a thorough Jewish education. After School he spent three years in a traditional ‘Yeshiva’ (Midrash Shmuel) in Jerusalem where he further intensified his Jewish studies. Upon returning to Manchester University to study Computer Science where he received Bsc.Hons, Danny was confronted with the reality of Jewish assimilation. No longer just a statistic but something he saw with his own eyes. Danny decided that upon completion of his degree he would take up Rabbinic studies in order to secure a future in helping inspire the young Jews of today.
Danny and Anna then worked for Lubavitch South Manchester on the Manchester University campus (Fallowfield) for 2 years. They established a successful “home away from home” where students could explore their Judaism, have traditional Shabbat experiences in a welcoming non-judgemental environment. He then went onto set up the charity “Ignite The Soul” which was aimed at the young professional community (20's and 3o's). Danny was highly successful at networking with young unaffiliated Jews across greater Manchester connecting them both socially and religiously. Whilst in Manchester Rabbi Danny was also the main speaker for JAMS – (Jewish Activities in Mainstream Schools) speaking at most of the Grammar & High Schools. Danny has a great passion for music and uses his musical ability to connect with people. He has played at concerts, weddings, schools including other faith schools, spreading the love and warmth of Judaism and spirituality. He is now also our acting Chazzan on the High Holidays, Shabbat and festivals and sings a wide variety of pieces giving the service a life and vibrancy. Anna grew up in Hale, Cheshire. Coming from secular background she embarked on a journey back to her roots in her late teens. She consolidated this by attending a Women’s seminary in Jerusalem and returned with a passion to give back to her community. Back in Israel whilst Danny was studying Semicha Anna further deepened her knowledge at a post-graduate Seminary called “Shearim”. She also attended a parallel course to the Rabbi’s that covered many aspects of the role of the modern Rebbetzen. Anna has trained in teaching brides and is known for her especially warm and sensitive approach. She also has experience at giving woman’s classes and discussion groups which were highly successful in Manchester. Anna enjoys running (the running track literally across the street is proving very convenient!) whilst Danny takes his football very seriously!
Rabbi and Rebbetzen Bergson have always maintained an open door policy and exude warmth that attracts people, making Judaism accessible to all ages. Together they form a formidable team here in Newton Mearns. |

In his second year of University Danny married Anna (nee. Bower). In the summer of 2001, Rabbi Danny and Anna returned to Jerusalem where Danny studied “Semicha” under the tutelage of Harav Yitchok Berkowitz under the auspices of Aish Hatorah and finally received his Semicha from Rabbi Zalman Nechemiyah Goldberg in 2003.
Rabbi and Rebbetzen Bergson have four children, Yael, Tzvi, Avital and Ilan.
